I work mainly in fetish, bdsm, and FemDom websites. I've been at it for about 4 years now. The flagship site I work for, http://www.ilsastrix.com has at last count, 2555 sites pointing to us. And that is with no webmaster referral program set up, just old fashioned linking.

I should start off with a little bit about linking etiquette that I have picked up over the years. First and foremost, be polite when you write someone requesting a link exchange. I've had guys write me with no greeting, just a one line sentence telling me they want a link. You know how far that will get you in my book. I personally believe in putting the persons link up before writing, their banner if possible. I keep everything I do each day written in a little notebook. If the person hasn't written back after 30 days, their link/banner is gone. Simple. The reason I put their link up first is it gives the site owner you've contacted a physical reason to link you back. There is nothing I hate more than someone writing me wanting a link, but not offering a link back. Or just leaving it in the air.

You can never link to enough people, from enough categories. Period. When I first started marketing the new members area of www.IlsaStrix.com I went on the web and printed up a listing of every FemDom on the web from a linklist. I put every one of their links or banners up, and wrote them requesting a linkback. It took 3 weeks, there were 31 printed sheets of FemDom/Dominatrix websites. But it was worth it, that was a traffic goldmine that pays off to this day. As the first links page got too big, I broke it down into geographical areas, and so on.

There were some outstanding circumstances. Ilsa Strix had developed an incredible name in that particular community. We also had a very professional website we were promoting. But, I think this could apply to most any adult site. Say you were doing an Asian or TS site, simply go to one of the major link lists for that niche, and get started. I think I should put in that I only post links for sites that have a links page. That's kind of a given, but should be mentioned.

Is there any site too small or off subject to link to? Absolutely not! One of my partners linked us to a foot fetish site, Aragorns Feetlinks. A little off subject for us, but they did cover trampling, and Ilsa also does some foot fetish work. Well, that little foot list has turned into one of our top 5 referrers. I honestly wouldn't have guessed it in a million years. You never know what artery some of these sites have tapped into, and by linking you can be a part of it.

I spend a couple of hours a day linking, and looking for links. It still amazes me when I will come to a beautiful commercial site, and they have no links pages. I will just sit there and think, "Well, how are people going to find your little spot on the web, if there are no street signs directing them?" Linking is not only vital to your sites existence, but a very economic way to get traffic. All it takes is time, patience and persistence. And we all have plenty of that while we wait for those first checks to start rolling in.

(Jerib is a webmaster, graphics artist, and marketer for http://www.ilsastrix.com, http://www.prodomination.com, http://www.bdsm-video.com, and has just started a new linklist at http://www.bdsm-list.com. He will be a regular contributor here at PornResource and we are EXCITED about having him aboard our staff as he will be covering niche marketing more in-depth in the coming weeks.)
